John 12 But Judas Iscariot didn’t like what Mary did. He was one of Jesus’ disciples. Later he was going to hand Jesus over to his enemies. Judas said, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold? Why wasn’t the money given to poor people? It was worth a year’s pay.”

This week assembly theme has been “Extravagant Thanks”. Pupils learnt about the women who poured expensive perfume on Jesus. John 12. We asked the pupils whether they thought she should have used the perfume on Jesus or given it to the poor? We welcomed Rev. Andy March to lead our worship on Wednesday.

Next week we will be holding our Harvest Festival Service at St Christopher’s Church we will leave at about 9:10 carrying our Harvest gifts. Donations of food or money are welcome as these will be given to local residents and the food bank.

This week Mrs Moorcroft has been learning about the new Early Years Curriculum. Pupils will now be assessed using the criteria in Development Matters.

Last night I attended a meeting at Blue Coat School. I was delighted to hear how there English Department had adopted Green Pen work following visits to St John’s last year. We continue to share idea’s and resources between schools.

Matthew 15 35 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. 36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. 37 They all ate and were satisfied.

This week during Worship we talked about thanking God for our food and ways of saying grace. Thank-you to Lynette for leading our Worship on Wednesday. We looked at how our diet is full of variety and the way we often waste so much.

This week Year 1 enjoyed their visit from a new mum and her new baby. They asked lots of great questions and everyone enjoyed themselves and learnt lots.

Year 6 have produced some excellent work about Usain Bolt.

On Wednesday we held our first full Governors meeting. They were delighted with all the new building work and how the staff have worked together to quickly provide an excellent learning environment.

On Thursday we held a Development Day together with Edison Learning, our new School Improvement Partner. I reviewed the improvements to the school we made last year with the Advisor. I was proud to show her round the school and we looked at all the progress pupils made last year. We are now taking our marking and feedback to the next level and so pupils will be given more time to respond to feedback at the start of the lesson.

We now group pupils more dynamically according to what they need to learn in that lesson, so your child may work in several different groups during the week.

Please thank God for our rich and varied diet

Foundation and Reception Grace.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Thank you God that we’re alive.  6, 7, 8. 9, 10 Thank you for our food, Amen

Mens Sausage Night

Men’s Social Sausage Night

St John’s C of E Primary School

16 November 2012

7pm – late

Ever fancied making your own sausages?

Now is your chance to design and make your own perfect banger.

Stuart Taylor from John Taylor & Sons butchers will be running a Social Sausage Night especially for the men of St John’s C of E Primary School.

The night is a social but with a twist.

You’ll be given a demonstration how to make sausages (like The Generation Game), you’ll then be given the raw ingredients for approximately 30 plain sausages and the equipment to make your own whilst receiving expert guidance.

So all you need to do is create the perfect banger by bringing along your additional spices and ingredients to design your own flavour.

Tickets are:£10.

For this price you’ll get an evening of expert tuition, the raw ingredients and approx 30 sausages of your own design to take home!

There are only limited places available, so book quickly if you are interested.  Deposit must also be paid when booking.

This event is organised by St John’s Parent Teacher Association, thanks to John Taylor and Sons butchers.

Olympic Sports Day a great success.

On Thursday pupils took part in range of sporting activities and rack events. The Olympic and Paralympic values were evident. We quickly took advantage of the dry weather.

We have had a great week and pupils have quickly got back to work.

On Thursday we decided at the last minute to have an Olympics Sports Day. Pupils took part in various activities in the morning and we had some track events in the afternoon. The Olympic values were evident throughout and everyone enjoyed the day. Thanks to all the Staff for putting it together so quickly—it was a great event.

Today some teachers have been working with our new improvement partner Edison Learning and I know they will be coming back with lots of new ideas. Take a look at the display in the school entrance.

This year we are lucky enough to host a Triple P positive parenting course. Places are limited and the course offers tips to help your child as they grow up. This opportunity only comes round once in a while.
